The Halt of Commercial Seal-Slaughtering in Canada
Sign Now
Last year alone over three hundred thousand baby seals were slaughtered for what Canada believes to be a "sport". The clubbing of innocent baby-seals who, those that do not die upon the impact of the hakapik, are skinned before they even reach the boat. Many of these animals are skinned alive.
The Canadian government reduced the number of seals that were to be culled this year from three hundred and thirty thousand to two hundred and seventy thousand, believing that saving sixty thousand will make a difference. Yet they did not take into account the other risks baby seals must pass to reach adulthood, the mortality rate for these animals is at a risk of 90\% now.
Scientists believe that there are about 5.5 million harp seals in the north-west atlantic. and about 30\% are born in the gulf of St Lawrence, around 1.65 million seals. they allow two hundred and seventy thousand of these to be killed, thats around 17\%.
we need to show the Canadian government that the world does actually give a dam about what is happening on their land, even if this means that the world boycotts any products that come out of Canada.
By signing this petition i hereby state that i will not purchase any item produced through Canada or having any contact with this country until the slaughtering of baby seals comes to a halt in Canada and the slaughtering of this animal is not considered a sport.
