The recent amendment that will be "Limiting the size of Key Club Divisions" that was approved on February 29, 2008 at the Board of Trustees Meeting in Denver, Colorado largely ignores the interests of Divisions. Despite allowing Lieutenant Governors and Governors to more properly govern respective Districts and Divisions, it completely and selfishly ignores Division 22 Menehunes of District Cal-Nev-Ha. Spliting Division 22 in half not only greatly increases the costs in travel for LTGs in the state, but also eliminates long-standing traditions and organizational prompts set up for over fourty years.
This document directly contradicts the Key Club International Motto: "Caring - Our Way of Life" by discouraging unity amongst clubs in Hawaii and clubs in Hawaii with California and Nevada. It sets up complications in splitting a Division that is already divided by four islands.
The plausible solution is to split the clubs as "Oahu" and "Maui, Kauai, and the Island of Hawaii". However, only eight clubs compose the outer islands, meaning two clubs on Oahu will likely be designated to the new Division. The resulting conflict of interests will not only divide our Division even greater than the ocean, but put further strain on the value of "aloha" that surely the International Board cannot comprehend.
If you feel that Division 22 should remain a united Division as it has been the last four decades, please sign this petition. Key Club is a club meant to raise good citizens, and by all means, you are being a good one right now but being a public advocate of a good cause.
