West-Park Presbyterian Church is a landmark at last! We, the undersigned, echo the words of New York City Council Member Gale A. Brewer, who stated on January 12, 2010:
"Today's landmarking of the West Park Presbyterian Church is a huge victory for the West Side. After battling for years over the fate of the 116 year-old church, today we have saved a great building. But we've also preserved a spiritual and everyday landmark for our neighborhood, protecting not only architecture, but history, heritage, and quality of life.
"The soaring bell tower and beautiful, shining red brownstone of West Park Presbyterian Church is a beacon to West Siders and worshipers.
"A superb example of the Richardsonian Revival style, it has grace, bold massing and scale, and it is perfectly fitted to its site. It epitomizes the definition of a landmark building that all New Yorkers can relate to and be proud of.
"There is more to do. This momentous designation sets the stage for the congregation, neighbors, Community Board 7, elected officials, and preservation groups to work in concert for the church's spiritual and adaptive renewal."
