Withdraw Coalition Forces From Iraq

Whereas, various Iraqi parties have not been able to cooperate with each other in building a new political system; and
Whereas, The Iraq Study Group was created by Congress on March 15, 2006 and released its recommendations for ending the war/occupation on December 6, 2006, during which time 611 American GIs were killed in Iraq; and
Whereas, the groups report states that American troops could be withdrawn from Iraq in the first quarter of 2008 if its recommendations are followed, which means that, using the 2.33 daily killed in action rate since military action began on March 18, 2003, an additional 911 to 1,120 American GIs will be killed by this delay; and
Whereas, more than 3,000 Coalition troops have died since military action began; and
Whereas, at least 22,000 Coalition troops have been physically injured during their service in Iraq to date and that number continues to rise; and
Whereas, the number of Iraqi civilians injured, killed, and/or left homeless has reached catastrophic levels, and
Whereas, most American officials believe the war cannot be won militarily;
Therefore, we urge all members of Congress to stand behind Senator Carl Levin's proposal
-- to remove Coalition troops from Iraq in the first half of 2007
-- while at the same time engaging in or participating with international efforts to assist Iraq with a political solution to solve its problems and rebuild the country.
