On the Twenty First of August two thousand and six the Students, Faculty and Staff of St Peters Lutheran Collage (here after referred to as the school) received an e-mail informing them that the online free encyclopedia known as Wikipedia had been banned until further notice. The e-mail went on to state that any bibliographies containing the site Wikipedia as a reference will be marked as having poor research techniques. The ability to ban a given website within the schools computer network until now has been used to block in-appropriate online material such as gaming websites. Wikipedia is an online resource and although it may contain inaccuracies it is very useful for getting an overview of a given topic. The undersigned are in agreement with the school in the sense that far more in-depth research is required for an assessment piece. The banning of Wikipedia will not prevent the use of it by students it will merely push it underground. The undersigned therefore request that the ban on Wikipedia be lifted.
