Many veterans believe passionately that ANZAC DAY (25 April) is the national day all veterans reflect and remember those who served, and those who paid the supreme sacrifice. This day has been created by government for this specific purpose and is a National holiday to reflect and remember all veterans of past and current conflicts, including Vietnam.
Likewise many veterans of the Vietnam conflict believe 18 August each year is for the honour of D Coy 6 RAR and supporting elements to reflect on that iconic battle, and that each unit or units involved in other major battles or engaments should reflect on the anniversary of that the date of that encounter (such as Coral, Balmoral, etc).
This petition is to gauge whether ANZAC DAY should be the only day all veterans remember those who fell and served, in all conflicts Australia has been involved in and that individual units reflect on their own battles on the dates they occurred, and that 18 August each year should be for the given back to D Coy 6 RAR and supporting elements, and not be dually known as Vietnam Veterans/Long Tan Day
