Millions of people are killed, injured, raped, repressed and forced to flee their homes as a result of THE IRRESPONSIBLE AND POORLY REGULATED ARMS TRADE.
Health, education and other services are being denied and livelihoods destroyed. Therefore the world needs A STRONG ARMS TRADE TREATY that will prevent arms transfers if they are likely to contribute directly to serious human rights abuses or poverty. THE TREATY must cover all conventional arms, including ammunition.
Every year armed violence costs Africa more than £11 billion – the same amount it receives in aid.
This July, world leaders will meet in New York to draw up the FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL ARMS TRADE TREATY. This TREATY could save countless lives and help prevent human rights abuses across the world - but we have JUST ONE SHOT to get it right.
So in 2012 we all have A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY to create A BULLETPROOF TREATY that will SAVE LIVES.
We call on MP’s in the Telford area to support a strong, comprehensive arms trade treaty, at the United Nations discussions this July.
