Yusuf Islam (the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens) is a man with no record of engaging in any illegal activity. He has written many songs about peace, love, and understanding, such as the folk-rock hit, "Peace Train".
Moreover, he has stridently denounced the violence caused by terror groups such as Al-Qaeda, and has used his influence to try to save the lives of hostages in Iraq.
We call upon Attorney General John Ashcroft to immediately allow Mr. Islam to enter the United States, and to re-examine the erroneous and bigoted policies that led to refusing him entry.
