A Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for the actress Angela Lansbury.

We the undersigned request that the film, television and theatre actress Angela Lansbury is made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Angela Lansbury was born on 16th October 1925 and is probably one of the best actresses from her generation. She has starred in numerous films, television programmes and Broadway stage plays over the years and has a career which spans seven decades. She has been nominated three times at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress for starring in Gaslight (1945), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1946) and The Manchurian Candidate (1963) and on all three occasions never won the award . She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Bafta Awards in 1978 for starring in Death on the Nile and again lost out but did however win a Bafta Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2003. Angela has also won four awards for Best Actress at the Tony Awards for Mame (1966), Dear World (1969), Gypsy (1975) and Sweeney Todd (1979). Besides all this to her credit, Angela starred in the long running television series, Murder, She Wrote from (1984-1996), probably her most famous role which won her a worldwide following. Angela was nominated twelve times for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards for starring in Murder She Wrote and on all twelve occasions never won the award. She was however, nominated ten times for Best Performance by an Actress in a Tv-Series/Drama at the Golden Globe Awards for starring in Murder, She Wrote and on four occasions out of ten won the award.

Angela has already received a CBE in 1994 for her services to acting, but we feel it is time to make her a Dame.
