Against Bringing Football to the University of South Alabama

Whereas money and attention should not be diverted from needful things such as the development of new academic programs,

Whereas the athletic department already draws over $6 million per year out of the University budget,

Whereas money could be better spent on improving current sports facilities instead of starting new programs,

Whereas evidence shows a city of Mobiles size and a commuter campus as small as University of South Alabama cannot maintain a football program without massive strain being placed upon its budget,

Whereas the 2002 attempt to sell season tickets for football at South Alabama only drew 2,200 buyers,

We, the undersigned students and faculty, hold that implementing an NCAA football program at the University of South Alabama would be detrimental to the financial and, therefore, academic situation of the school.
