Against Membership Fee's

Dear All,

This is a petition against the cost of sports membership for club members in Snowsports and Surf. It will also be of benefit to any other clubs that are facing the same issues.

With the latest crack down from the sports council urging for club members to hold full sports membership it is becoming a strong topic of conversation amongst committee and club members alike. Although we are sports clubs from TRENT, we do not use Uni facilities for our outdoor trips. We do not use Byron Hall to practice surf tactics nor do we use Clifton to try out our snowboarding. For these we travel far and wide as often as we can.

We pride ourselves on not only being a sports club but on holding some of the best Uni trips for all years which keeps attracting a variety of members even from other clubs themselves.

In order for us to keep these events going we need a compromise from the sports electives.

Membership stands at 110 for the academic year.
The cost of a regular surf trip is an average of 60. Bearing in mind not everyone can always make it due to finance it's absurd to then ask for an additional amount on top of the trip for membership.

A snowsports Sheffield trip averages on 15 weekly, plus the big trips which many like to venture on plus membership on top doesn't make sense.

Let alone the external parties which aid us in driving minibuses and help out on trips. What will happen to them?

We understand that the biggest issue we are presented with is insurance for using transport. We'd like to propose a discounted fee for insurance if it's what we are being hassled about. The last thing we want is to lose members because when ideally we should be some of the cheapest and most enjoyable clubs, we are being turned into the opposite through money issues.

We feel strongly about this and so should you. Please help us by putting down your name in this group petition which we will be presenting to the sports committee to fight our cause.
