Allow Mr. Colbert the Privilege of Swearing in a Class of U.S Citizens

Dear Mr. Obama,

We, the Colbert Nation, would like you to reconsider your decision not to allow Mr. Colbert the privilege of swearing in a new class of U.S citizens.

Mr. Colbert must put on the persona he does for the sake of his career. There is no reason to believe that he would be disrespectful in his swearing in of new U.S citizens. Take, for example, his Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. While Mr. Colbert had his moments that could only be described as over the top, at no time did he appear to show disrespect or an intent to be disrespectful toward the event. In fact it was quite the opposite. Many people would consider the way in which Mr. Colbert and Mr. Stewart handled the rally to be entertaining and satirical yet respectful of the views of a wide array of Americans. Like it or not, Mr. Colberts satirical stances are the true positions of many Americans.

Also it has come to our attention that these ceremonies are allowed to be performed in venues such as circuses. Surely, Mr. Colbert is not to be lumped in with striped tents and large mammals.

For these reasons we would urge you to allow Mr. Colbert to proceed with the planned swearing in.
