For a number of years myself (Dean Marshall) and many friends have played the sport Disc Golf, in various locations in New Zealand for fun and for competition. It is a fast growing sport worldwide.
For the past few years we have played Disc Golf day in and day out at yatton park, using trees or sign posts as targets, which is fine but doesn't allow us to be as accuarate as we would need to be in a proper scoring scenario.
We have been playing amongst dog walkers, picnicers and general park goers without hassel for some time, always considering the safety of those around us when playing disc golf. We are always patient when wating for the public to move when playing our shots.
We would like to propose the idea to the Tauranga Council that semi-permanent (removable) Disc Golf Baskets (targets) are placed throughout Yatton Park for the purposes of public use for the sport of Disc Golf.
Although the baskets may be tampered with by troublemakers to some extent, they are durable and can withstand all weather conditions and are not an eyesore. Their place in yatton park will not only benefit current Disc Golf players, but will also encourage others to take interest to the sport, which in turn may boost local enconomy is various ways as people may travel to the course at Yatton park to play.
