Animal abuse and cruelty

This petition has been created in support of 2 recent animal abuse and cruelty cases. One in Didsbury and one in Medicine Hat AB. And to support a LEGAL petition that has been started and is circulating by Tamara Chaney of Didsbury, and spearheaded in Medicine Hat by myself, Miles Albrecht. This petition is to give support to have Bill C-50 re-introduced to strengthen current laws and jail times to those convicted of animal abuse crimes. These two cases have been highlighted highly with coverage by most local news outlets in Alberta.
In Didsbury 2 boys tied , bound, duct taped a dog, and dragged it by the neck behind their car for a couple of miles, a local vet was called and the dog was destroyed to put it out of its misery as it could not be saved.
In Medicine Hat, a young girls pet rabbit - Midnight , ( my daughters) was taken out of its secure cage on Friday the 13th, crushed, cut open from its breast bone to its butt, and his stomach removed. My daughter found this horrible scene upon returning home from school that day when she went to feed Midnight. Midnight was found left lying in the backyard.. What young child should have to experience the trauma related to this terrible act of mutilation of their pet. My daughter will be writing a letter to hand deliver to our MP, on how this horrible experience has affected her directly and to express that the laws currently in place do need to change.
We are encouraging everyone in Canada , to sign this petition , to give our Legal petition the support that will be needed when presenting this petition to our MPs in Ottawa . Our hand delivered petitions will be given to them personally, and they will be directed to this petition page to read for themselves that we are not alone in wanting the current laws on animal abuse changed. Which currently stand that one convicted of abuse to animals can receive a max of a $2000.00 fine or 6 months in jail. This is nothing compared to the trauma one goes through when crimes of this sort are committed.

This petition will be addressed to The House of Commons in Parliament, specifically requesting that legislation like former Bill C-50 be re-introduced. Bill C-50 Tougher Penalties for Animal Abusers. Known in past years as Bill C-17, C-15, C-15B, C-10, C-10B, C-22. We are rejecting Bill S-213. If this Bill were to pass , it would be the first to make significant changes to prevent animal cruelty in Canada since 1892. Regardless of countless petitions in regards to animal cruelty, numerous horrific cases of animal abuse, public concern and outrage, proven links between animal abusers and serial killers, many federal politicians continue to block Bill C-50. In truth, some politicians have falsely claimed Bill C-50 would stop farmers from branding their livestock as well as prevent fishermen from using live bait just to name a couple. Both claims are completely false. The legislation is, in fact, Carefully worded to permit accepted animal industry practices to continue. The outcome of this political gamesmanship is that innocent animals continue to suffer horrific cruelty, and their abusers/killers continue to go unpunished. You can support this petition as well by contacting your MP and encouraging him/her to support the reintroduction of effective animal welfare legislation like Bill C-50. For further clarity on Bills C-50 and S-213 contact the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies at WWW. CFHS.CA. Former Bill C-50 is not attacking our animal industry, it is carefully worded to protect this industry.
