Child support is a good thing. However, it is being used more and more as a weapon against the non-custodial parent rather than for the support of the child. Custodial parents have at their disposal free legal counsel who will not only pursue child support, but enforce it. At this point, the courts do not care, nor are interested in whether or not: 1. the custodial parent does not allow the non-custodial parent to visit, phone or even send cards and letters. 2. that the non-custodial parent doesn't have the funds to hire an attorney to fight for their parental rights. 3. that the non-custodial parent cannot afford the child support and will go to jail, have their license revoked and continue to fall behind in their payments. Many hard-working non-custodial parents are in jail, have lost their license; and for those who can and do pay their support, they are not allowed to see their child without expensive legal representation. Representation is free to a custodial parent. The laws should be changed so that the same representation is available to the non-custodial parent, so that the non-custodial parent is given reasonable visitation, phone call, and the right to contact their child/children. These laws have to change. If you agree, please take the time to sign the petition. Thank you.
