Avatar Relationships

Dear Dave Filoni, Michael Dimartino, Bryan Konietzko, Nick Malis
and everyone else at Nickelodeon Studios:


We (Myself and Megan) have recently read an announcement about new characters, storylines, etc. in the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender", and feel that it is our duty as two of the original members of the Avatar fan base to speak publicly for everyone who feels the same way we do about these new advancements.

While there are many things we like about these new ideas, (Meeting Katara and Sokka's father, learning more about the Northern Water Tribe and Air Temples...) we simply can't stand for some of the relationships that have been brought up. We applaud you for making episode fourteen ("The Fortune Teller") an Aang and Katara based episode, that's the couple we very strongly believe in and will support to the end. But we urge you not to get swayed by the shockingly large number of supporters of Katara with Prince Zuko.

This is simply not right.

It's fantastic that you listen to your fans and take their ideas into consideration. But of course, don't we Aang and Katara supporters have just the same rights as the other side? Since it boils down to you all to stop this ongoing argument, (Or do your best to do so) please hear us out and consider which option is the more sensible one.

Really, would Katara ever go for someone like the banished Fire Nation prince? With all due respect; this is a children's show, not a soap opera.

Here are a few points I can think of off the top of my head (Though there are many, many more):

- Would Katara ever really consider being romantically involved with someone from the nation that killed her mother? I understand she's a teenager and we teenagers have melancholy emotions, but I wouldn't date someone who was involved with anyone who killed my mother.
- Consider Jet. Katara liked him until she realized what his true intentions were. When he almost killed that whole village, and went after Aang, Katara left him frozen to a tree. Jet went after Aang. Zuko is after Aang. Katara stayed on good terms with Haru since he wasn't after Aang! Katara would never go against Aang, she cares about him too much and the many moments they've shared prove it. This gives us a lot to think about.
- Would Katara have resisted telling Zuko where Aang was in the episode "The Waterbending Scroll" if she'd really, truly cared about him? Even when he had her tied to a tree and surrounded, and had stolen her mother's necklace? She's loyal enough to Aang to not let anyone harm him, especially someone she doesn't like herself!

We believe that Aang and Katara would make a wonderful couple, and passionately encourage you to develop their relationship. Zuko (Whom we do not dislike as a person; on the contrary, we're both Zuko fans) and Katara would never work, simple as that. We highly discourage this relationship, and ask you to please consider our thoughts and ideas.
