We the undersigned want the practice of zooing or confining animals so that
others may gawk at them ended.
End confinement,
The animals are subjected
1 . to heat
.. a polar bear suffocated at one zoo
2 . to stress (dolphins have committed suicide by banging their heads
against tanks to get out of Sea World type situations)
3 . to sadism from the crowds
a hippo choked to death on a ball thrown
into his yawning mouth at the Detroit Zoo.. birds in aviaries are stoned
4 to vivisection
. in the past UC Davis was supplied primates
from the San Diego Zoo.. while this has stopped
we are told.. the practice continues elsewhere
5 to canned hunts . Tim Taylor of Channel 8 worked on the following:
The Cleveland Zoo was exposed 2 years ago as part of
a ring of suppliers for canned hunts in Texas.. fenced in enclosures
which trap animals so hunters can shoot them like sardines in a can)
GOP state governors have dotted the US map with canned hunts.
Pataki in NY, Engler in Michigan, Keating in Oklahoma, Bush and Perry
in Texas, Taft in Ohio
(We have no way of documenting if the hunting supply has stopped
or if the Zoo is giving 'excess' animals to slaughterhouses
or research institutions)

Many zoos have sold 'excess' animals to slaughterhouses
7 Many zoo animals die in transit
Some suffocate or die in thirst or are smashed in airline cargo holds.
8. They have been torn from their families and their native habitat
