BRHS Class of 2005 Class Trip

To the Members of the BRHS Class of 2005:
(and all others interested)

We have spent the last four years of our lives raising money, working hard to increase our funds with the hopes of having a very enjoyable class trip. Now that the time has come, weve been told that the money that we raised cannot be used in the way we want it used. Yes, we took a vote on what to do for our class trip, but we had two sorry excuses for options: the trite idea of rafting, or the entirely unappetizing 24 hour party. When we suggested other ideas, such as spending the day at Six Flags or going somewhere with more options than just rafting, we were shot down for numerous, ridiculous reasons such as, We cant leave the state! Yet, the authorities could give us no good reasons for this. Now, on top of the fact that we cannot choose our own class trip, they have incorporated mandatory bag checks into the mix. If you missed the meeting where they mentioned this, here is the basic idea of it: Before leaving the school after our graduation exercises, all of our bags will be put into two rooms, boys in one room and girls in the other. The students will not be present for the bag checks, however, two police officers will to ensure that nothing gets stolen (in other words, in case they find anything illegal in anyones bag, they can punish them promptly). THIS IS A HUGE VIOLATION OF YOUR PERSONAL PRIVACY. Of course, no one has to go on the class trip, but what a waste of our money! We worked hard to be able to go on this trip, lets not let them ruin it for us! This petition was written, if not for the right to choose our own class trip, to allow us the right to use the money raised however we want to. The money should be divided evenly between all of the members of the Boothbay Region High School Class of 2005 for their own personal use, whatever that may be. Then, we would be given the opportunity to take a trip as a whole that we would all enjoy.
