We, the undersigned, believe that the film Beowulf and Grendel, directed by Sturla Gunnarsson and starring Gerard Butler, Stellan Skarsgard, Sarah Polley and Ingvar Eggert Sigurdsson, is worthy of a theatrical release in the United Kingdom. Our reasons for this are:

Wide ranging audience appeal, there is something for everyone in this story.
The poem features in various University courses in the UK, thus adding students to the potential audience.
It has been well received at film festivals in Canada, the US and Europe, even being the only film to sell out for all three screenings at Sarasota, USA.
It has already obtained a theatrical release in Canada it has done well at the box office there and recently secured a distribution deal for the US.
Pre-orders at Amazon.ca for the DVD pushed it to number one in their DVD chart. It is currently in the Top Ten as of the date of this petition.
We, in the UK, need to show our support for our own talent. Many of the cast are British, including Gerard Butler, who plays the title role. He is an up and coming actor who has already made 2 films back to back this year and has more in the pipeline for later this year.
It was a Canada/Iceland/UK Production so the UK should get a chance to see it at the cinema.
The epic saga that Beowulf and Grendel is based on was written down in England; that it should be shown in the UK is only common courtesy. It `belongs` here.
The stunning scenery of Iceland calls for a big screen viewing. The impact of the landscapes would be breathtaking.
We feel we should have the opportunity to view this film with an audience of like-minded people, sharing in the laughter and tears.

We ask that you visit the Official website and view the trailer and featurettes there. Also please take time to read some of the discussion on the message boards to see what public opinion on the film has been like so far.
