At this moment in time both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are in a terrible state and it doesn't look like they will get any better any time soon. The two soaps have more problems than enough.
1. They are on far too much. Coronation Street is on five times a week and Emmerdale is on six times a week. Both soaps need to be put back to two episodes a week.
2. The casts for both soaps are far too big and need to be split in two. Both soaps should only consist of 25-35 characters at all times as well.
3. Both soaps need some of the old bosses, old scriptwriters and old characters on board again to get them back on track.
4. There are far too many kids in both soaps.
5. The stupid pantomime storylines and characters are ruining both programmes. You do realise Coronation Street and Emmerdale are supposed to be soap operas, not sitcoms. Soap operas are supposed to be serious, but not totally depressing though like Deadenders.
The one thing that annoys me the most though where Coronation Street is concerned is that two parter on a Monday night. It always ends on a cliffhanger to make damn sure the viewers come back and it is such a big let down. When they first introduced that two parter on a Monday night, it was only for special occasions, but now it has become a regular thing, it has taken its toll on the programme. The storylines are terrible and are just padded out. There is no proper story told and the stories go absolutely nowhere. Even worse on two occasions if I remember rightly, Coronation Street was shown three times in one night, one of which was when Mad Maya blew up all of Dev's shops. ITV have relied on Coronation Street too much in the last ten years and it is now looking a very tired old show. Coronation Street has never been any good since Bet Lynch departed in 1995. Bet needs to come back to run The Rovers Return once more because that pub is hers. The one thing that annoys me the most with Emmerdale is the one hour specials when something big is suppose to happen, but that something big doesn't happen until the last 10 minutes of the one hour special and it is the same every time they have a one hour special. Emmerdale has never been any good since Kim Tate departed in 1999. Kim is the only one who can save Emmerdale and stop it from deteriorating even further.
