Campaign for a better worldwide Black representation on mainstream TV

My name is Amanda Amory, I am an Black-British aspiring Scriptwriter and I feel that there is a lack of worldwide positive Black representation on television. Not just because I, myself am from the Black community, but in my future chosen career as a scriptwriter and having friends, colleagues and family members who aspire to be actors, there is limited opportunity for us to succeed.

The USA has fared better than The United Kingdom with African-American drama series and serials shown on TV, like "Generations", "City Of Angels" and "Soul Food", the TV series spun from the award-winning film of the same name, and I am so thankful that on both sides of the Atlantic there are a number of Black actors, writers and directors that have "opened the door" for us, but there is room for more on both sides of the camera. MUCH more.

There is a vast wealth of vibrancy, humour, pathos, drama, entertainment and passion in the Black community that deserves to be heard and enjoyed by those who love television as much as I do. I have also personally heard from Television Industry professionals that there is a need for more Black representation in the Media as what we have now is far from ideal. Which is why I am urging you to please sign this petition in the hope that it changes things for the better.
