Cancelation of sanctions against USC

Mr. Emmert;

We, the undersigned, are students, alumni, faculty, staff and fans of the University of Southern California Trojans (hereafter referred to as "USC" and "Trojans").

Given the news of the last few days detailing the countless NCAA violations committed by the University of Miami (alleged by former booster Nevin Shapiro), we feel that the Trojans should have all NCAA sanctions dropped without delay whatsoever. While the abusive actions of former football player Reggie Bush were flagrantly wrong, the offenses committed by 70+ University of Miami student athletes, coaches, administrators and those of Nevin Shapiro were especially egregious. [1] This behavior is also extremely hypocritical, considering former Miami Athletic Director Paul Dee's position of Chairman on the NCAA's Committee of Infractions during the investigation of USC. (Cited in [2]) Mr. Dee served as Athletic Director for much of the duration of the alleged eight year pay-for-play booster scandal perpetuated by Mr. Shapiro and in no way should a man of such low moral caliber be seen as fit to render judgment against other universities.

Mr. Emmert, quoting your response to the Miami allegations: "If the assertions are true, the alleged conduct at the University of Miami is an illustration of the need for serious and fundamental change in many critical aspects of college sports. This pertains especially to the involvement of boosters and agents with student-athletes. While many are hearing about this case for the first time, the NCAA has been investigating the matter for five months. The serious threats to the integrity of college sports are one of the key reasons why I called together more than 50 presidents and chancellors last week to drive substantive changes to Division I intercollegiate athletics."[3], we, the students, alumni, faculty, staff and fans of the USC Trojans demand immediate cancelation of NCAA imposed sanctions (2011 Bowl ban and reduction of scholarships) against the University of Southern California Trojans. Additionally, we do not want a "death penalty" imposed upon the University of Miami. However, we urge you to consider a lifetime ban upon Paul Dee from any and all activities involving the NCAA and all college athletic programs.
