Adoption law needs to be changed! Mothers should not be able to place children up for adoption for at least for 7 days after their delivery due to the physical and emotional distress that accompanies such an event, not to mention the effect of narcotic drugs often used to control post-delivery pain on ones ability to think clearly. There should also be an adequate amount of time to revoke consent. For goodness sake, youre allowed 2 weeks to revoke a car contract. Puppies and kittens arent allowed to be adopted out until theyre at least eight weeks old. Surely human beings are more important than cars or animals! Adoption should also be regulated federally with the laws being the same in every state. This would eliminate the state hopping tactics used by agencies to rid fathers of their rights, as in the cases of Cody ODea and Matt Tenneson, and avoid battles between states with one state ignoring a court order from another which is now the case with Matt Tenneson. Fathers also deserve equal rights. Those are their babies too! Putative Father Registries are a joke and are dehumanizing, in my opinion. Finally, in a case of contested adoption, the case should be heard in front of a jury. One person should not be allowed to the authority to make a decision of such great consequence.
