Change the name of SLA Arabian Gulf to SLA Persian Gulf Petition

Dear Dr. Rebecca B. Vargha & Dr. Saif Abdullah Hamood Al-Jabri,



We, the undersigned, humbly request that Special Libraries Association of the United States changes the name of its "Persian Gulf" branch (i.e., SLA-Arabian Gulf Chapter) either to "SLA-Persian Gulf Chapter", or to a new and entirely different name, for example "Arab States/Countries Chapter".



In addition to the Persian Gulf historical evidences, you might be aware that several resolutions in the United Nations are led to officially recognize that body of the water the Persian Gulf. Moreover the most recent report prepared by United Nations' Group of Experts on Geographical Names, Working Paper No. 61, Vienna, 28 March 2006, insists the Persian Gulf as the original name of this gulf. Not to mention that all known intl geographic research institutes refer to this spot of the globe as the Persian Gulf.
