Choose a New Entity to Run Festivals

The undersigned residents and business owners of Covington, Kentucky respectfully petition the Covington City Commission and ask that the Commission choose another entity besides the MainStrasse Village Association (MSVA) to operate the Citys festivals held in MainStrasse Village.
The recent indictment, guilty plea and jail sentence of the MSVA director and former city commissioner Jerry Bamberger has been an embarrassment to our city. Apparently he intends to hold on to his job at the MSVA for an undetermined period of time. It would reflect poorly on the City if it permitted him or any organization he controls to run an event for any of our neighborhoods.
In addition, the MSVAs record in giving back to the community and accounting for festival proceeds and profits has come under scrutiny and, as the city is aware, there have been a significant number of complaints by residents and non-MSVA business owners about the association and the operation of the festivals. But, regardless of Mr. Bambergers presence at the MSVA and the MSVAs actions, it has simply held a monopoly on festivals for too long.
We think that its time for the City to bring a fresh approach to our festivals and operate them itself, or find another professional to do it. A new promoter would hopefully run events that would unite and give back to our community.
Please let Maifest be the last MainStrasse festival run by the MSVA. It is time to move on.
