a large pop, popcorn and small candy is in the $16 + tax range. The actual costs - based on mass purchasing that a powerful entity like Cineplex Entertainment has - would be less than $3 for the entire combo. (Pop is simple syrup, Co2, water, ice, cup and a 32oz drink has a net cost of around $0.20/drink. A large popcorn would cost around $0.75/bag. Candy can be bought for $1 to $3 depending on where - outside - you bought it. $1.95 total cost and $14.05 in profit.
They sell a bottle of coke (from their machines) for $4.50, but if you go to Dollarama or Everything For a Dollar Store, you can get that EXACT SAME BOTTLE OF COCA-COLA for $1!!! (BTW for what it's worth, Dollarama or EFADS combined, would have about 1/10th of the assets of Cineplex, and thus a lower buying power...).
The candy you buy for $4 and $6 costs Cineplex around $0.50/bag.
Cineplex CEO was on "Undercover Boss Canada" and complained that the company was 'losing money on concessions, as fewer people were buying them.'. Is it any wonder why they are losing money? They are over priced, the servers aren't polite, and they want to charge more!!!
This petition is simply asking Cineplex Entertainment to use common sense, use their brains, and reduce the cost of food to NORMAL PRICES THAT ARE NEAR NORMAL!
I would rather pay $15 or $18 for a ticket, and $10 for the above "combo".
I know most of their money is earned on concession, but, rising prices is just going to lead to rising number of people buying food and sneaking it in.
Please, Cineplex Entertainment - lower concession prices, and raise ticket prices. Lower the salaries of the top 5% and give that money back to your consumers. If you give, than you'll get more in return.
