To the House of Commons In Parliament Assembled WE, the undersigned citizens of Canada, draw the attention of the House to the following: WHEREAS each year, an average of two thousand children are adopted from other countries and are brought to Canada by Canadian families who welcome them into their lives; and WHEREAS biological children of Canadian Citizens born abroad receive automatic Canadian citizenship at birth; and WHEREAS children adopted from foreign countries by Canadian citizens currently do not; and WHEREAS, children adopted by residents of United States of America and Great Britain are granted automatic citizenship upon adoption finalization and entering that country, or on the date of the adoption order respectively; and WHEREAS, it is respectfully submitted that the failure of the current legislation to grant automatic citizenship to children born in other countries and adopted by Canadian citizens is in violation of Section 15 of the Charter of Rights and cannot be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. THEREFORE your petitioners call upon Parliament to immediately enact legislation to grant automatic citizenship to those minors adopted from other countries by Canadian citizens, with this citizenship being immediately granted upon the finalization of the adoption.

We were the lucky ones who did not encounter any problems with Noйmie's citizenship (China) in 2002. I feel for all others whose process was not at easy. N Brunswick.
