City of Hartford Motorcycle Parking Plan

To The Mayor and The HPA of Hartford Connecticut,

We, the undersigned, support the creation of designated motorcycle and motor scooter parking in all parking facilities operated by The City of Hartford including all parking garages. Recognizing that motorcycles and motor scooters can reduce traffic congestion on the streets of the city, but have no designated parking; we call upon The Hartford Parking Authority and The Mayor to create parking for such Powered Two Wheeled Vehicles (PTWs). The motorcycle parking should have features such as metal or cement pillars to protect the motorcycles from damage in the event an automobile entered the designated area. It also should be in an area near pedestrian traffic to lessen the chance of theft (e.g., near the smoking area or walkway to the rear entrance.) In addition, the area should be visibly marked as an area specifically for motorcycles. A motorcycle-friendly parking policy should be part of Hartford's overall traffic congestion and environmental protection agenda. A motorcycle-friendly parking policy is forward-thinking in an era where you want to get as many single drivers out of large vehicles as you possibly can. Below are some additional key points detailing the benefits of designated motorcycle parking.

- Fewer automotive parking spots taken
- Motorcycles contribute far less to traffic congestion
- Motorcycles use less precious fossil fuels
- Motorcycles emit fewer emissions into the environment
- Motorcycles will have a safer, legal place to park with less likelihood of damage from car bumpers.
