Clippers Against School Uniforms

A LETTER WAS SENT HOME ON DECEMBER 5TH, 2006 TO THE PARENTS. IT READS:
"One of the initiatives for next school year will be ther implementation of a mandatory school uniform policy. The potential benefits of school uniforms are numerous and include some of the following:

-Decreasing violence and theft, even life-threatening situations among students over designer clothing.
-Promoting school safety for students, teachers, administrators, and visitors.
-instilling students with a sense of pride and an attitude of discipline that helps resist peer pressure
-Helping school officials recognize individuals who come to the school
-Reduction of clothing cost - uniforms are less expensive.

Violence will occur whether we have on designer clothing or not.A life threatening situation can arise over various things other than what a person is wearing. Implementing school uniforms will not make our school any safer for ANYONE. It just makes the students angrier that they can not express their individual style and students will not want to comply. They do NOT instill a sense of pride in any of us, or make an individual more disciplined. What a person is wearing does not make them more disciplined. If students want to act out without a uniform on they will act out with a uniform on. WHY PUNISH THE WHOLE SCHOOL FOR THE STUDENTS WHO CAN'T COMPLY? If you are AGAINST the school uniform policy for 2007-2008 school year, then please sign this petition.
