Coalition of Cupertino Residents Against High Power Cellular Antenna Near Schools

We, the undersigned residents, voters and citizens of Cupertino, support the activity of the Coalition of Cupertino Residents Against High Power Cellular Antennas Near Schools. We are asking the city to cancel the previously approved T-Mobile antennas near Collins and Regnart elementary and modify their wireless master plan restricting antennas to be at least 1500 ft away from schools for the following reasons:

1. We support the efforts of the city to provide wireless connectivity. The problem is that the current plan will not achieve it. In addition to health risks that nobody is sure what are the long term of this type of radiation, these solutions are limited and localized. Verizon Wireless has proven that using towers located far way from schools and dense residential areas, can achieve good coverage.

2. The proposed antennas are in the parking lot of Collins elementary school and within short distance of Regnart elementary school and present a danger to young children. These antennas are in an area children walk and travel around daily on their way to Cupertino schools.

3. The proposed antennas, in close proximity to residential neighborhoods and schools, present potential health risks, especially for young kids. A growing number of studies link cell antennas to health related illnesses such as headaches, dizziness as well as cancer.

4. A cellular phone antennas at the proposed location near Regnart elementary will NOT improve wireless coverage effectively (even the planning department admits this!).

5. Wireless antennas near family homes lower their property values. Residents would seek lower tax assessments as a result of these antennas. There are various appraiser journals and publications that support these arguments.

6. If the approved T-Mobile antennas, next to schools in dense residential areas, are approved and constructed, a precedent will be set for future wireless carriers to install antennas on every utility pole in other Cupertino neighborhoods, perhaps next one in your backyard. This means that soon all our streets will be full of ugly antennas, wireless boxes and cables.


We REQUEST that the city of Cupertino, council members and planning commission take a precautionary approach, strongly consider the potential health effects, aesthetic impacts, and ineffective coverage improvement from the proposed cell antennas, and create a real wireless plan that will prevent these cell antennas (and future ones) from being built near schools! The city should request all the wireless carriers to come up with a joint proposal, that will address the coverage issues without making our streets look like military wireless compound and without endangering our kids. We want the city of Cupertino to continue to be highly desired residential area because of EDUCATION and NOT RADIATION!
