SINALTRAINAL alleges Cokes complicity in the following:
The assassinations of 8 SINALTRAINAL union leaders in the past 15 years
The arrest and displacement of coke workers and union leaders
The raiding and destruction of union property and private homes of coke workers
The use of death threats, harassment and kidnappings to intimidate union members
The firing of SINALTRAINAL members and forced renunciation of union membership
As a result of these human rights abuses, union membership has declined 50\% over the past decade, thwarting SINALTRAINALs efforts to improve the quality of life for Colombian people.
Coca-Cola claims that respect for labor and human rights is fundamental to The Coca-Cola Companys principles for conducting business around the world. Yet, Coke refuses to investigate human rights abuses at its bottling plants in Colombia, or even attend a preliminary meeting with the Workers Rights Consortium (WRC), an objective monitoring body.
Therefore, we call on New York University to:
1. Stop the sale and distribution of Coca-Cola products on campus.
2. Request an objective investigation by the WRC into allegations of Coca-Colas complicity in human rights violations against the SINALTRAINAL union.
