"It is difficult to believe that a university such as ours would continue to take the wrong direction whenever an option arises. The man has demonstrated his hypocrisy and sycophancy and dishonored his own achievements. Why should we reward such behavior? "
"Powell certainly has a right to speak on campus. However, I object to the university granting him an honorary degree or paying for him to speak. This perpetuates the false view that Powell is still a respectable public figure with some sense of honor."

"I am saddened by this decision to honor Mr. Powell. I understand that he may have not whole-heartedly agreed with the president's policies, but that is no excuse for his shameful behavior. Honoring him with this degree seems contrary to our motto "Meliora"
