"Im sure you are aware each time a fallen soldier is repatriated at CFB Trenton their remains travel from the base, along a 172 km stretch of highway to the Coroners Building in downtown Toronto before being released to the family for the funeral service.
I have also had the honour and sadness of traveling along the Highway of Heroes three times documenting bridge and bridge the thousands of ordinary Canadians who travel for hours to attend a bridge closest to them.
People have said, and I myself can attest along with being a extremely sad time for Canadians, it also gives people who attend a extreme sense of pride. Bridges are covered with red and white with people waving the Canadian flag.
One Ontario Provincial Police officer who has lead the procession over 100 times told me in 25-years as a police officer he has never witnessed anything that has brought Canadians together like the Highway of Heroes.
It is for this reason, and many others for which I write to you.
I think it would be a tremendous honour to have an image of the route traveled to be emblazoned on a coin from the Canadian Mint.
This would be a lasting tribute to the everyone who attends the bridges along the route, but more importantly, to the families and friends of fallen soldiers.
Canada has lead the way in honouring its fallen heroes, and once again, I believe Canada can again lead the way with a coin for a lasting memories of this Countries support for the fallen."
Please sign below and show our support for our solidiers and their families. If we could do it with the renaming of the "Highway of Heroes" we can certainly use our substantial grassroots support to have The Highway and our solidiers commemorated in a coin.
