I am a high school senior in Stafford County, Va. My entire high school career, I have worn some article of clothing that had the image of the Confederate Flag, which happens to be a large part of my heritage. Until this year, the most anybody said to me about the flag was last year when a girl complimented my hoodie. Yesterday, while interviewing students for a newspaper article during lunch, Mrs. Buesche (pronounced Bush), the new assistant principal, told me I had to go to the attendance office and get a replacment shirt because I was violating the dress code by wearing the flag. I refused until they allowed me to go to my car and get a different shirt. My argument is that students have always been allowed to wear the Confederate Flag on their clothing and that we should still be able too. The Confederate Flag is also a large part of Virginia History. Most of the African Americans in my school don't mind because they see the flag almost everywhere (Stafford's population is mainly composed of rednecks). I have started a petition at school and on www.myspace.com and if I get a good amount of signatures, I plan on going before the Stafford County School Board and try to convince them to allow the Confederate Flag be worn in school. You don't have to be a high school student or even like the Confederate Flag to sign this. I'm just asking if you believe that students should be able to continue wearing the Confederate Flag (which just as American as the current flag)then please sign this petition. If you don't believe we should wear it, than I respect your opinion and I thank you for your time. Thank you.
