We the undersigned oppose the decisions of the Governors of Tile Hill Wood and Woodlands Schools to convert to Academy status. There is no evidence that Academies benefit the education of our young people and significant evidence to say that a fragmented education system will affect pupil attainment.
Academies threaten teachers' job security and conditions of service. When schools no longer have Local Authority protection it can lead to redundancies and greater class sizes for pupils.
Contrary to school claims, there is no extra government funding available to Academies.
This is the privatisation of our schools. These are community schools and any decision to change them should only be taken after a full and comprehensive consultation process. This has not occurred in these schools. As parents, pupils, staff, community members and parents of future pupils we do not feel that our views have been taken into consideration.
We call on you to delay the academy application until 01/01/2012 to allow a full and open consultation process before any decision on our schools future is made.

Coventry has always been proud of the way its schools have supported each other. Academies means the end of that city wide ethos and the feeling that Coventry stood for comprehensive, all inclusive education.
