CSS and HTML inter-browser consistency

We request that the same CSS and HTML code be rendered in such a way that the final visual result will be the same so that we will not spend endless hours trying to figure out why a layout looks different on every browser it is viewd in and then having to find hacks and tricks to solve this.
I don't think that this combined effort from the companies that produce today's browsers will affect in any way their market share, competition or image, on the contrary it will prove respect for the common user and designer.
