De-Amalgamation of the former Crows Nest and Rosalie Shires from Toowoomba Regional Council to form the Northern Downs Shire Council

RESIDENTS OF THE FORMER SHIRES OF CROWS NEST AND ROSALIE - WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP Since the 2008 amalgamation of the Toowoomba City Council with the Crows Nest Shire, Rosalie Shire, Jondaryan Shire, Pittsworth Shire, Clifton Shire, Millmerran Shire and Cambooya Shire Councils the people of all of the amalgamated shires have seen their rates increase dramatically and their services decrease. They have also felt the loss of their identity and reject the ‘one size fits all’ approach to local government that is required of a super council. A petition is currently being circulated to immediately begin the process of de-amalgamating the former Rosalie and Crows Nest Shires from the Toowoomba Regional Council to form the Northern Downs Shire Council as was originally proposed by the residents of both former shires during the Size Shape and Sustainability program. The residents of the former Rosalie and Crows Nest Shires are requesting that the original outer boundaries of the former shires remain unchanged and the dividing boundary between the former Crows Nest and Rosalie Shires be removed to form one Local Government area to be known as the Northern Downs Shire Council. The Queensland Local Government Minister the Hon. David Crisafulli has now anounced that if shires wishing to De-Amalgamate from their Amalgamated Super Shire they may do so if they can make a suitable financial case and gain the required number of signatures on their petition set at 20% of the eligible voters in their proposed local government area.
