Whether you agreed or had an interest in politics, one thing is clear. We can all agree that Jack Layton, former leader of the Official Opposition New Democratic Party, was an inspiration to all Canadians across the nation.
A politician this country has never seen before in its history. One, who for once seemed to win over the hearts of Canadians and make us believe he himself was for the people, and wanted to change Canada for the better. He took the time to stop and talk with Canadians where he went, and listened to what they had to say be it positive or negative. He was not a politician to hide behind public relation consultants, or campaign managers. He truly believed in us as a people, and as a country.
Listening to stories over the past weeks it is evident he was truly loved by people of all walks of life and inspired us to do many things. Be it by getting Canadians to exercise their democratic right and vote in elections, to never giving up at whatever it is we all are trying to accomplish.
On August 22, 2011 tragedy struck. The life of the politician we all loved and appreciated had been taken too soon to an unknown second battle of cancer. To truly show our appreciation for Jack Layton, and everything he was able to do for Canada, and all Canadians I write this petition to make August 22nd Jack Layton day all across this great nation.
Attached, are signatures of Canadians who feel August 22nd should be Jack Layton day in honour of everything he has accomplished.
