A Cry for Justice and Public Safety - We the Undersigned, Oppose the Parole and Early Release of James W. Brown

On February 15, 1996, in Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia, USA, James W. Brown armed himself with a rifle, went to the home of Jeffrey Clarkson, and, using the scope on the weapon, watched from the woods. Seeing the victim and his father standing in the yard, Brown waited until Clarkson was alone and then shot him in the head and killed him. This pre-meditated murder occurred after Brown had stalked Clarkson periodically the day before and the morning of the homicide. Brown admitted guilt to the murder. The jury convicted him on June 17, 1998, and on that same day the court ordered the judgment of conviction and life sentence.

James. Billy Brown was the ex-husband of Christina Clarkson, Jeffreys wife. Christina and Billy had one child, Holley, who is now almost twenty years old and in need of protection from James Brown. Christina and Jeffrey also had one child. Ashton, who was a toddler at the time, was present at the murder of her father. She is also in need of protection from James Brown.

In addition to protecting these children, much of Christinas family lives in the community in which James Brown would be released should he be granted early release and parole and would need protection. His release into the town of Dahlonega, Georgia would launch their family into a very jeopardized amount of safety. Mr. Brown in the past has made threats that show a great amount of instability.

It is the wish of Christinas family that no other families are made to suffer such a loss at the hands of James W. Brown. A person who could so callously pre-meditate a murder out of jealousy is capable of doing the same thing or worse if given the opportunity. Morality cannot be either legislated or rehabilitated. Because of his depraved indifference to human life, we, the undersigned request you deny James W. Browns early release from prison.

If you would also like to me a victim impact statement either from the standpoint of a citizen fearing for the safety of our community or if you know any of the family affected, please also click the following link and fill out the short form. EITHER WAY, please scroll down to sign the petition against Browns early release.
