Palawan is the Last Ecological Frontier of the Philippines. It is home to the countryХs last remaining stretch of old-growth forests and biodiversity. Scientists warn that there are still countless undiscovered species of flora and fauna in its forests and waters. Some of these species could unlock solutions to disease and climate change. Palawan has been designated as a Man and Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations.

Mining in Palawan will mean large-scale destruction of forests and ancestral lands, as well as contamination of bodies of water. If we destroy Palawan, we donХt just destroy its resources and heritage, we destroy one of our countryХs last remaining treasures.

ФDoc GerryХ Ortega was a broadcaster, outspoken activist against mining, and staunch defender of the PalawenosХ environmental heritage. On January 24, 2011, he was shot dead. Let his death signal the beginning of making his dream come true. Let us stop mining in Palawan.
