Don't Privatize Dolores Park

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department Commission (RPDC) has awarded two concession permits to food vendors in Dolores Park. Originally intended to operate from small pushcarts, the vendors are now being allowed to set up two trailers each 12 x 8. Proposed locations of one trailer is next to the childrens playground, the other is next to the clubhouse. One contract is for two years, the other for five years. In return, the vendors will pay rents that will go into Recreation and Park Departments general operating funds not even specifically earmarked for Dolores Park.

RPD & RPDC took this step without adequately informing local residents or businesses of the plan until it had already been finalized.
RPD sought proposals without an adequate plan or process, even changing the proposal from food carts to food trailers without public discussion.
RPDC decided to raise revenues by privatizing concessions in Dolores Park without public discussion with the neighborhood. Some public discussion has been had and the resounding feedback from the community is: NO CONCESSIONS IN THE PARK.

We, the undersigned, are against the privatization and commercialization of Dolores Park. Dolores Park is a city treasure, but it is also a neighborhood park.
We want Dolores Park to remain a public green space without private businesses.
We want RPDC to make public decisions that affect parks and neighborhoods only after due public notification and discussion with the residents.
We want RPDC to void these two permits that were made without adequate notification and public discussion of the contracts and the implications of commercialization and privatization on Dolores Park and the Dolores Park neighborhood.
