As concerned Illinois voters, we are writing to urge you to seek the 2006 Republican nomination for U.S. Congress in the 18th District.

In your announcement for the U.S. Senate in 2004, you told the people of Illinois, If you've been looking, longing, or even praying for a changethen I ask you to visit my web site for further details about my campaign. Today, we are heeding that call. It is time for a drastic change in leadership for central Illinois.

For the past half-century, the people of the 18th district have been represented by officials that inherited the job after being on the staff of the retiring Congressman. For the past century, the people of the 18th district have been represented by officials from only one of the districts 20 counties. For decade after decade, the people of the 18th district have been represented by ineffective, pragmatic officials who often cave to the Democrats on critical issues and do not represent the principled, conservative values of a district that has not elected a Democrat since 1916.

Your outstanding record in Logan County, in the Illinois General Assembly and your unyielding integrity during the U.S. Senate campaign has proven to us that you will stand steadfast for traditional values and principled leadership, and make us proud again to have a true Reagan Republican holding this historically Republican seat. Furthermore, we believe you would be the strongest candidate in both the primary and the general election, as demonstrated by your ability to win twice as many votes as Senate nominee Jack Ryan in home county of Logan. If you win the partys nomination, you are virtually guaranteed to hold this seat in November. The time to act is now.

We urge you to run whether or not the incumbent decides to seek re-election. The people of the 18th have never had a real primary challenge in which to judge his performance and make their feelings clear. We know you are reluctant to re-enter the political arena, so Illinois Voters for Honest Government pledges to start a drive to raise $1,000 to donate to your campaign in the event you announce your candidacy.
