It was announced in early 2001 that Dragon Ball, the predecessor to the hit show Dragon Ball Z, would be airing on Cartoon Network with the original music intact, including a redub of the first thirteen episodes. And, it was also made apparent that all VHS releases of episodes 14+ would be uncut only. There was a lot of excitement in the fanbase over this new dubbed version of Dragon Ball.
Many people assumed DVD releases would shortly follow the VHS releases, especially after Dragon Ball proved successful in its 2001 rebroadcast.
As of right now, the only available uncut Dragon Ball DVD is "Mystical Adventure", which was released in February 2001. There are currently no announcements of any further Dragon Ball DVDs. However, FUNimation's other acquisitions, especially Dragon Ball Z, maintain a regular DVD release schedule.
This isn't fair to us, the fans of Dragon Ball. There are those of us who are fans of the English dubbed version and prefer the DVD medium. There are also those of us who would like to see the original Japanese version subtitled without resorting to piracy. And there are also those of us who fall into both categories.
Dragon Ball Z may be much more popular than Dragon Ball, but the show that started it all has a fanbase, too. Despite its size, or lack thereof, it is always important to please the fans.
We, as the fans of Dragon Ball, would like to see FUNimation put some effort into releasing Dragon Ball on uncut subtitled DVDs, rather than putting it off in favor of more DBZ releases, and advertising "Coming soon".
