This is a problem that many people have had to deal with: hearing damage as a result of a concert being too loud. A loud concert is stated as measuring at 115 to 120 decibels of sound. Soft, disposable foam ear plugs often protect the ear anywhere from 25 to 33 decibels on the NRR(Noise Reduction Rating) system. By using these ear plugs, we can reduce the amount of sound picked up by the ear drums down to 85 to 95 decibels, a considerable difference. Continuous exposure to levels higher than 85 decibals for more than 8 hours a day can be dangerous for the ears. Considering how most concerts, raves, and sporting events(i.e. WWF event) last about 2 to 4 hours, this puts us at a much safer level of noise. These ear plugs cost anywhere from 10 cents a pair to 2 dollars a pair, which is just a drop in the barrel considering the high prices of concert tickets nowadays. This petition is intended to be sent to as many bands, record labels, and concert halls in the country, so that they are aware of this issue and that we, the listeners and ticket purchasers, are concerned with. I'm hoping that these organizations will take notice and will offer hearing protection to attendees of these events, even if it means charging an extra 10 cents to 2 dollars for a ticket. Please sign this and send it to as many people as you can. I'm hoping that in the near future, a kid wearing ear plugs at an event will look normal, instead out of place.
