I support retention of elementary instrumental music in its current form if possible, but if cuts are required, that all special programs (i.e. art, vocal music, and physical education) and other non-instructional staff such as librarians and library secretaries be reduced equivalent amounts, to avoid the complete elimination of any single program of enrichment.
Furthermore, I support an option to incorporate the elementary instrumental program at the 5th grade level into the general music curriculum only if instrumental training in the general music curriculum at the lower elementary grades is strengthened.
