Energy Crisis Remedy

We, the undersigned, feel that not enough is being done to manage energy crisis nationwide. We further feel that we, the public, are being ripped off by the unchecked excessive rise in energy costs. These costs are excessive even taking into consideration the Gulf Coast hurricane damage and Middle East war. We do not feel that there are sufficient effective controls to ensure that price fixing among energy companies does not take place. We feel the energy industry is quick to raise prices at any and every opportunity and slow to reduce them allowing them to reap financial benefits far beyond what is reasonable. The impact of these excessive costs have a further impact on ALL areas of our lives as every business is forced to raise their prices as transportation costs rise.

Therefore, we demand the immediate roll back of all energy prices to 2004 prices. We further demand that congress establish a subcommittee to determine whether current energy industry pricing practices are effective and fair. We demand that the energy companies be fined. The fine should be an amount equal to gross income 2005/2006 minus gross income for the same period 2004/2005.

Half of this fine should be rolled into a fund to support non-government exploration for alternate energy sources and invention of new non-oil related motors. This fund should be overseen by a non-governmental board to eliminate the chance of energy industry lobby intrusion.

One quarter of this fund should be used to provide shelter for individuals who have lost 90\% or more of their personal property in regional disasters such as the Gulf Coast hurricane. Dispersing of these funds should be through verifiably reputable nonprofit, non-government agencies.

The remaining one quarter of the fine should be equally divided among all tax payers earning less than $50,000 per year.

Should energy companies fail to respond to these demands, we call for all investors to divest themselves of American-owned energy company stocks by December 31, 2006 effectively rendering them worthless.

We are tired of being controlled by money-hungry energy companies and feel these steps are necessary to ensure our freedom from their tyranny.
