Facebook Must Lift the Ban on Breastfeeding Imagery

On March 11, 2010, Facebook Account number 1116324199 was disabled due to an image of a woman breastfeeding her baby. The reason was that the image is considered "Obscene" by Facebook. This is act is discriminatory, derogatory, and damaging to the pro-breastfeeding movement worldwide.

By signing this petition I agree that:

1. I believe that breastfeeding is not an obscene or indecent act, and is in fact an act of pure and simple mother-baby love. Its place in society is one of high esteem, and as such is an act to be proud of. Breastfeeding is also protected by anti-discrimination laws WORLDWIDE, including the state of California USA, where the head office of Facebook is located, and therefore according to the Facebook Statement of Rights and Responsibilities Section 15 Part 1, is protected on Facebook itself.

2. I agree that the account of Serene Dawn Johnson has been unfairly disabled due to short-sighted and over-zealous censorship, and must be reinstated immediately.

3. Facebook policy should be amended to protect breastfeeding, whether my link, information, note, image or any other form. Breastfeeding should NOT come under the generalisation of the Facebook Statement of Rights and Responsibilities section 3, part 7. Breastfeeding shall include but not be limited to pre-latch, active suckling and detatchment.

4. Facebook must carry out ALL actions within this petition.

5. I wholly agree to this petition statement.
