A 1991 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that nearly all of Americas six-year olds could identify Joe Camel, who was just as familiar with Mickey Mouse. Another study found that 1/3 of the cigarettes illegally sold to minors were Camels. Moe recently, a marketing firm conducted a survey in shopping malls across the country, asking children to identify their favorite TV ads. According to the CME KidCom Ad Traction Study II, released at the 1999 Kids Marketing Conference in San Antonio, Texas, the Taco Bell commercial featuring a talking Chihuahua were the most popular fast-food ads. The kids in the survey also like Pepsi and Nike commercials, but their favorite TV ad was for Budweiser.

$500 billion is spent on advertising. More and more is geared towards youth, as my age group is the MTV generation, suckers who love to buy, buy, buy.
Our nations problem with consumerism in which we buy not because we NEED it, but because WE CAN.
Most products gear towards bettering every individuals life, whether it is through body image, increased social interaction, or elevating status.
Stop our future generations in buying into being cool by smoking cigarettes and drinking alcoholI propose that the Federal Trade Commission mandate a sin advertising decree that 15\% of all advertising from sinful companies go towards re-educating how bad these products are.
Many of these products are not just your everyday cigarette and alcohol companies, but Fast Food chains, products with Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil (Found in every cracker, cookie, chips, and packaged convenience food product) that contains trans fatty acids that cause significant and serious lowering of HDL (good) cholesterol and a significant and serious increase in LDL (bad) cholesterol; major clogging of arteries; Type 2 diabetes; and other serious health problems. Most consumers are unaware of how deadly partially hydrogenated soybean oil is as an inexpensive preservative that packaged convenience food product companies say we ALL need. This is one of the reasons why Americans are gaining weighthumans back in the day didnt eat foods with preservatives and chemicals!
Please sign this petition to overturn FALSE ADVERTISING and voice your opinion as an American that you dont want to take any more BS from advertising companies telling you that certain chemicals will not harm you. Advocate for a 15\% return on re-educating our youth, which is nothing compared to them spending $500 billion annually!
