In 2010, Leigh Haggerwood attempted to bring back to the Christmas charts in the UK the 'traditional' Christmas Song which has sadly been pushed to one side since X-Factor's dominance of the music industry.
Despite battling for three years with record companies, he had to go it alone and record his song with NO record company backing what-so-ever. The song called "My Favourite Time of Year" with an amazing 'Christmas Carol-esque' video to accompany it, filmed at Blists Hill, Ironbridge, Shropshire.
The song was initially released on 6th December 2010 but got NO airplay in the UK at all. Mainstream radio stations turned a blind eye to the song as it was from an unknown record label 'Calmsound'
It reached no 40 in the indie chart and 14 in the indie breakers chart over the Christmas period but failed to make the UK Top 40 singles chart.
The instrumental version of the song was then chosen by ITV to accompany their 'Text Santa' charity appeal in December and Leigh agreed to donate ALL profits from UK downloads to the 9 charities of Text Santa and the Ironbridge Gorge Museum trust (a World Heritage site in Telford, Shropshire) As mentioned above, the video was filmed at their Victorian Town of 'Blists Hill'
The song was re-released on 5th December; however, mainstream radio ONCE AGAIN decided to leave the song off their Christmas playlists and ignore ANY requests for the song to be played on air.
Once again, this took its toll on the song and it failed to enter the Top 40 over Christmas.
I am setting up this petition to get the song on the Christmas 2012 playlist of ALL mainstream radio stations in the UK including Heart FM, Capital FM, Radio 1 / 2 and Signal 1.
I have linked to the video on You Tube. If you like the song, please support this petition.
