Arzhang Davoudi is a 46 year old political activist who was arrested after having interview in Iran with Jane Kokan, a Canadian reporter who reported and filmed the documentary "Forbidden Iran" which was broadcast in Europe, USA, and Canada.
For 100 days, Arzhang was held in solitary confinement in Unit 325 of Sepah (the Islamic Revolutionary Guards) and had undergone numerous physical tortures by the terrorist gangs of the Islamic Republic, which resulted in a broken collarbone, a bleeding eye, hearing impairment and several broken teeth.
Later Arzhang was transferred to Cell 1 in Evin prison, some time during the third week of March 2004 he was transferred from Cell 1 to Cell 8 in Evin prison, an area where monetary prisoners are held captive in Iran.
It is noteworthy that Cell 8 of Evin prison does not have a medical facility, and according to doctors Arzhang Davoudi is in need of surgery for his eye, hear, and physical therapy for his collarbone. Up to now, there has been no follow up from authorities in regards to Davoudi's treatment.
It is probable that his transfer to Cell 8 has been aimed to increase pressure and avoid treatment. This transfer brings about our attention and concern.
We the undersigned strongly condemn the arrest of Arzhang, and call upon the international community and human rights watch to take actions for the immediate and unconditional release of him and other captive political prisoners in Iran.
